good news and bad news

May 5, 2010

so i’ve been having a few rough weeks. i came off of a broken finger which luckily didn’t affect my running schedule very much. although, the bad news is i i’m pretty sure i broke my toe. this however WILL affect my running, seeing that I can barely walk right now. I’m exactly one month out from my race so needless to say it’s VERY frustrating. I’ve invested a lot of time, energy, sweat and tears and not doing this race is not an option for me. I’m going to train in alternative ways for the next couple of weeks doing my abs/arms and aqua jogging and riding the stationary bike. I know I’m not the only person to have bumps and bruises along the way, which helps a little. However, I find it “funny” I’ve lived on this earth 28 years and have never broken a bone in my body, and manged to break two within a month of each other.

Regardless, I’m trying to not let it get me down and I’m hopeful the recovery process will be quick and I can hopefully pull a Kobe Bryant and get my butt back out there.

On that note, wish me luck! GO LAKERS :)

sixteen miles

April 26, 2010

apologies for the lack in updates. it turned out i broke my finger and pretty much have been laying low. but it’s been 2 weeks and my finger is finally coming around again – phew!

anyway, yesterday was our 16 mile run. it wasn’t easy but it was an easier run for me than the 14 mile run was. I guess you can’t predict how you’re going to feel one day verses another. I’ve always heard you WILL have bad runs, but you’ve just got to shake it off and move forward. I did that with my 14 mile run and as a result had a better 16 mile run because of it. I’m reaching the point in my training where I’m a little bit nervous. I’m ready to kind of “do this” and stop with all these crazy long distance runs leading up to the “main event” haha :)

I will post more later. Thanks for all the support!!

14 Miles & Softball

I have to keep this short as I jammed my finger playing softball yesterday and so my typing errors are awful.

The run was a challenge for sure. Hardest and longest run to date. Although, jamming my finger in softball after transferred all the aches and pains from my legs to my hand :) Opps! Oh well, I should be better in a week…I’ll update more soon!

Reached $3,000 in my fundraising goal! Only $2,000 more to go!!

12 mile marker

April 4, 2010

I’m not going to make this very long mostly because I am Tired :) Today we ran the furthest thus far hitting the 12 mile marker. I have to admit this morning I did NOT want to get out of bed – however, I sucked it up knowing my other teammates would be there are there was no reason I couldn’t do it. It started out kind of rough, mostly because I was tired and in the “I can’t,” mentality. However, after about 4 miles I realized I WAS going to do it and I kind of started to feel a little better…by mile 8 I was in my routine. It was hard run but I’m glad I did it. We start at the Santa Monica Pier and run on Ocean to San Vicente and up until Wilshire. Which basically takes us through Brentwood, past the old yoga studio Edi worked at (didn’t look like it was still there), past Barney’s which if you haven’t been has Amazing burgers, past SEVERAL starbucks haha, and all the way up to Wilshire Blvd. which more or less is by the 405 over near Westwood. I was pretty impressed with the group and the distance we covered. However, I will be happy to ice my knees and take a little nap before heading to brunch at Chris and Patty’s. Happy Sunday and Happy Easter to those who celebrate.

I’m over halfway to my fundraising goal, $2,690.00 so much appreciation for the support! :)

Old Agoura 10k

March 29, 2010

Saturday morning started with a 5am wake up call. I drove from my apartment out to Agoura to run the 10k Great Race of Agoura. It was a beautiful course complete with horses :) I didn’t run for time and my teammates and I ran in our marathon intervals of about 4:1 (running:walking). We have been training all along pretty much with this interval which really helps me not burn out. I didn’t run the 10k to win, my time was 1hr 14 minutes, nothing spectacular but actually good in the long run of things for my overall goal. I enjoyed the course and didn’t find it difficult even in the hill portions. It was my first 10k in years, so I was thrilled I took part and now I have a little bit of experience under my belt for the marathon.

I managed to still wake up on Sunday for my group run which they scaled back from 10miles to 5miles this week. They did a taper week with the 10k, however, next week we are up to 12miles. I am also doing some hill training Wednesday night with the the group, which I hear is pretty brutal.

Anyway, I’m going to go rest my feet :)

Thanks for following, I’m almost halfway to my fundraising goal – thanks!

10 mile mark

March 22, 2010

Yesterday was a milestone in my training. I ran my first 10 miles ever. I’m sure in my soccer days I ran pretty close or who knows maybe more, but if it’s been more than a decade (which it has) it doesn’t count anymore.

All week leading up to yesterday I knew we had a big run ahead of us. I hydrated, got a good nights sleep and woke up…nervous! :) I woke up at 6am, had some yogurt and a banana and got in my car (it was still dark out) and made the drive over to Marina Del Rey. We lead our practice with a very inspirational story from Coach Chris, who I feel honored to be training with. Then we set out on our first double digit run. I have to say 90% of the run was great. I am finding it much easier than I imagined to push through and finish. I think at the 8 mile mark (or around there) I had a moment of, “Can this be over already,” but I pushed through and in the last mile I really reached down and finished strong. I have to say, I was really proud of myself and even though it’s only a fraction of what I will have to do in 10 weeks it’s a great start.

Thanks for all the support it means way more than I think anyone can understand. Until next time! :)

I’m doing the Agoura Great Race 10k next Saturday and I’ll make sure to update on how that goes!
